Large Hospital Render Cleaning Case Study

When a large hospital in the South East got in touch with us, the brief was straightforward — the building looked tired, and they needed it to look professional again.

Years of exposure to the elements had left the rendered facade covered in algae, moss, and ingrained grime. On a building that size, that kind of buildup doesn't just look bad — it becomes a genuine reflection of the organisation operating inside it. For a healthcare environment, that matters.

Getting the Job Done Without Getting in the Way

The biggest challenge on a job like this isn't the cleaning itself — it's working around a site that can't stop for you. The hospital was fully operational throughout, which meant the approach had to be planned carefully from the start.

Before anything else, our team did a proper on-site assessment. That meant identifying the render type, understanding how far the growth had spread, and working out where the biggest problem areas were. From there, we put together a plan that would let us get on with the work without causing disruption to the people using the building every day.

We used soft washing throughout — a low-pressure method using specialist biocidal cleaning solutions. It's the right call for render because it deals with the root cause rather than just blasting the surface. High-pressure washing can look impressive, but on render it risks surface damage and doesn't treat the underlying biology. The soft wash solution soaks in, breaks down the algae and moss, and keeps working after we've left.

What It Looked Like Afterwards

The difference was clear. The facade went from heavily stained and discoloured to a clean, consistent finish across the whole building. The kind of result that's hard to appreciate until you see it — the before and after really does tell the story better than any description.

Longer term, the biocidal treatment continues to inhibit regrowth, which means the building stays cleaner for longer and the client isn't back to square one within a year.

Why It Mattered

A hospital's exterior is often the first thing a patient or visitor sees. It sets an expectation. Getting that render back to a clean, well-maintained standard wasn't just a cosmetic exercise — it was about making sure the building looked like it belonged to an organisation that takes pride in what it does.

That's what we're here for.
